Bears are sharpening their claws!

The Bear Den is learning about knife safety and how to whittle properly!

November 17, 2022

Last month, Cub Scouts from Pack 205 in Apex, North Carolina had lots of fun learning about knives and how to use them safely. Nathan, Kemp, Ethan, Kevin, Kaelyn, Josh, Emmett, Luke, Liam and Logan all gathered at the Bear Den to learn the basics of pocketknives - including three common designs.

The Cub Scouts worked together to practice skills such as opening and closing a knife safely and understanding its parts. After they learned the basics they put their knowledge into action by carving two items with their pocketknives. It was an incredible experience for these Cub Scouts who have now developed new essential skills that will last a lifetime!

In addition, they illustrated how to sever a piece of rope, twine or fishing line; open a sealed container without destroying what's inside, and even pierce through an unopened can with just the help of a pocket knife.

At Pack 205's Bear Den in Apex , Cub Scouts are taught the importance of practical skills, while also having a great time. So, if you know any Cub Scouts looking for an exciting way to learn new skills and have lots of fun, look no further than Pack 205's Bear Den!

Stay safe and happy carving Cub Scouts!
