William Highsmith

Pack Advancement Chair

William Highsmith has been an integral part of the Scouting program since 1990. As a youth, he earned the prestigious Arrow of Light and Eagle Scout Award and is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow. His involvement in scouting ranges from unit to national level – earning several training awards, completing Wood Badge, and receiving the District Award of Merit and the BSA Alumni Award. His current role as Advancement Chair for Pack 205 stems from his passion to help youth have the same positive experience he had, while having fun in the process.

William is a strong advocate of outdoor activities, stressing their importance to provide effective learning experiences and build character. He believes that scouting provides an invaluable opportunity to instill values of leadership, service and self-development in young adults. Being a scout himself, William shares his wisdom through encouraging youth members to push their boundaries and take on leadership roles within the scouting program.

Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age, appointed by the chartered organization and registered as an adult leader of the BSA.
  • A person of good character, familiar with organization procedures, with a deep concern for the pack's success.
  • Completes and maintains up-to-date position specific training and Youth Protection Training (YPT).

Responsibilities

  • Accept den advancement reports from den leaders and prompt them to enter data in Packmaster by the Tuesday following the 2nd den meeting of each month.
  • Provide advancement reports to den leaders or scout families upon request.
  • Enter advancements, awards and other data into Packmaster as needed.
  • Purchase badges and other advancement items from the Scout Shop or the Occoneechee Council office.
  • Organize advancement items and awards and deliver them to the Cubmaster for presentation at monthly Pack meetings and our annual Blue and Gold Banquet crossover ceremony.
  • Work closely with the Cubmaster to ensure that advancements are being delivered correctly and in a timely manner.
